Our school trip to Oxford – England (13th – 19th October 2019)

Day 1 (Sunday 13th)
We met in front of our school at 13:00 and then left in a bus at 13:45. We drove to Plzen to pick up our guide for the trip and after that we drove thru Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France to the port town Calais.

Day 2 (Monday 14th)
We arrived in Calais and boarded a ferry to the British Islands where we arrived roughly at 5:00. Then we continued our journey to the capital city of Great Britain – London.

In London we changed buses and with a local tour guide (that immigrated to England from Czechia 30 years ago) drove around the most important sights of Westminster and Kensington (museums, Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, Hyde Park, Piccadilly and Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, Downing Street and Parliament. Then we visited the Arsenal FC stadium.

In the evening we arrived in Oxford and then got picked up by the families we would stay with.

Day 3 (Tuesday 15th)
We spent our morning in a local school. We had 3 lessons with 3 different teachers. We did mostly some getting-to-know-each-other games and speaking.

In the afternoon we visited Stratford upon Avon which is the birthplace of a famous British writer – William Shakespeare. We saw Shakespeare’s birthplace, The Holy Trinity Church and then we had some free time for shopping.

After that we drove back to Oxford.

Day 4 (Wednesday 16th)
We spent the morning again in the school speaking and doing some exercises.

After that we drove to Birmingham and we had a tour of the Jaguar factory there. We saw the complete production of the F-Type sports car. We also saw a F-Type prototype.

When we finished the tour, we drove to Oxford and to our families.

Day 5 (Thursday 17th)
Thursday morning it was our last day of school, and the day we received our certificates for completing the Oxford Learning Home Stay.

After that we went to see the Christ Church College which was the inspiration for the Hogwarts School in Harry Potter and then we had some free time to go shopping.

Day 6 (Friday 18th)
Friday was our last day in England. We drove to London and spent the whole day there. We saw Greenwich and then we boarded a “river bus” and during the ride we saw Tower, Tower Bridge and the London Bridge. After we left the ship, we walked to Buckingham palace and some parks. We also had 3 hours of free time for shopping and to get some food for the trip home.

We left London at roughly 19:00 and then drove the Eurotunnel terminal and then boarded the train. The train ride took approx. 40 minutes and was, in my opinion, much better than the ferry.

Day 7 (Saturday 19th)
We arrived in France at almost exactly midnight. And then we drove thru Belgium, Netherlands and Germany to Czechia. We arrived to Úžlabina at 13:00 and the journey took 15 hours.
